In closing, Hey Ladies.

Earlier this week I decided to start a new blog called Digital PRescriptions, a new online home for my take on the impact of web 2.0 / social media on PR and brand communications.

The main reason behind this decision was that the format and (lack of?) focus of this blog never really made it a good place to comment on some of the things I spend most of my day thinking about. So I found myself not actually writing about the things I wanted to write about.

So I’m starting fresh.

This will remain a home for nonsense and musings. And Digital PRescriptions will cover all things social media and PR.

Simple.

But on two occasions in the last week or so, Obama has shown why he kicks so much ass.

The Sick Note

During a ‘town hall meeting’ in Wisconsin, Obama takes a question on health care from a man who brought his daughter along to the event. She was missing her last day of school to be there, so while Obama is answering the question, he also writes the young girl a note for her teacher, pardoning her.

The Fly

In an interview with CNBC’s John Harwood, a persistent fly is buzzing round him so he pauses, kills it, then picks up where he left off. Then has the good manners to pick it up with a napkin on his way out. Class.

Perhaps Bush wasn’t such a hard act to follow but, but Obama is showing how he can have a sense of humour without coming off as a clown.

I like it there, but I tend to prioritise not spending £40 on a cab ride home when finalising my plans so it often gets struck off the (sad, very short) list.

So imagine my amazement to have spent both Friday and Saturday nights meandering about Brick Lane.

And then imagine my crashing disappointment that the video below is as relevant today as it was in 2005.

Enough said.

A bit too close to home…

As ever, it was a good session with a lot of key takeaways. I’ve summarised my thoughts elsewhere on the Text 100 blog Hypertext London. Please give it a visit.

It brought back how awesome they were in the early 90′s, and also how they spectacularly imploded at the height of their success. ‘Chinese Democrcy’ took an insane 14 years to make during which point the Axl Rose had so many new band members that GNR was unrecognisable when the album was finally released last year.

The fact that someone took the time to put this together restores both my faith in humanity and Wikipedia. There’s nothing more rock and roll then a kick ass chart.
